Description	This photograph depicts the harvesting of hay in Wyandot County, Ohio. Before the Civil War, hay was an important crop in Ohio, particularly in the dairy counties in the northeastern part of the state. After the Civil War, hay began to lose importance and the number of acres harvested has dropped from approximately 2,500,000 in 1947 to 1,300,000 in 1995. The leading counties in Ohio for hay harvesting at the end of the 20th century were Ashtabula, Columbiana, Holmes, Knox, Mercer, Muskingum, Tuscarawas, and Wayne. This photograph measures 6.5" by 10" (16.5 by 25.4 cm) and is part of a collection of photographs by Dennis Barnes compiled in the book Celebrating Wyandot County.
