Thomas
Clark
Vanosdall
(b
.
1911)
was
born
in
Ashland
,
Ohio
. He
taught
science
at the
Hayesville
School
from
1932-1936
and
after
receiving
a
master's
degree
from The
Ohio
State
University
became
a
chemistry
professor
at
Ashland
College
in
1939
. He
taught
chemistry
at
Santa
Anna
College
from
1948
to
1957
.
Vanosdall
also
worked
as a
research
chemist
for the
Goodyear
Tire
Company
and
served
as a
consultant
to
George
Raike
in
Ashland
,
Ohio
. In
addition
, he was the
founder
of the
Tommy
Van
Swing
Band
,
which
played
music
all
over
Ohio
.
Clayton
was
born
in
New
Lebanon
,
Ohio
in
1910
. He
received
a
bachelor
of
science
degree
in
education
from
Miami
University
in
1932
as
well
as a
master
of
arts
degree
in
1937
and a
doctor
of
philosophy
degree
in
1948
from The
Ohio
State
University
.
Under
Clayton's
leadership
,
Ashland
College
experienced
tremendous
growth--transforming
from an
institution
of
four
buildings
and
300
students
into
one
with
36
buildings
and
2,000
students
. In
1982
, he was
appointed
director
of the
endowed
scholarship
program
. In
addition
to his
academic
career
,
Clayton
held
many
church
positions
on the
local
level
(including
deacon
,
moderator
, and
teacher
of the
Builders
Sunday
School
class)
,
district
and
national
levels
(president
of
National
Laymen's
Association
and
moderator
of the
National
Conference
of The
Brethren
Church)
. He was a
member
of the
Park
Street
Brethren
Church
and
supporting
member
of the
University
Church
.
