Description |
This piece of Flint Ridge or Vanport flint measures approximately 1.5" x 2" x 4" (3.81 x 5.08 x 10.16 cm). This type of flint is found in the area surrounding Newark, Ohio. Colors and textures vary widely, but it is typically tan, cream, light gray, and pale yellow. However, bright yellow, red, blue, and purple specimens are also found. Flint, a variety of quartz, is an impure form of chert, although some scientists believe that it is actually chert that is an impure form of flint. American Indians used flint to create projectile points and tools. |
