Description	This dress was worn by Frank McClave, who was born in New London, Ohio in 1877. The dress measures approximately 21" x 15" (53.34 x 38.1 cm). In the early to mid-nineteenth century young boys and girls both wore dresses, sometimes over trousers. If the dress included buttons, boys' dresses often buttoned in the front, while girls' dresses would typically button in the back. Boys usually wore dresses until the age of four or five, when they would wear an outfit with a blouse and a skirt resembling a kilt, before graduating to adult trousers.
