Sulliger
, a
prominent
Creston
citizen
who
established
Sulliger's
Band
in
1908
,
is
pictured
on the
far
right
of the
bottom
row
. The
band's
first
concert
was on the
Arcade
Hotel
porch
and was
followed
by a
march
to the
new
allotment
of the
Homestead
Land
Company
on
Carter
Street
in
Creston
,
where
they
performed
for an
audience
of
500
. In
1911
the
Creston
Band
Stand
was
built
, and the
band
played
open-air
concerts
in the
summertime
.
It
is
estimated
that
1000
people
attended
the
concerts
. The
band
also
performed
throughout
a
four-county
area
.
Sulliger
left
Creston
in
1912
and
Henry
Eberwein
took
charge
of the
band
,
changing
the
name
to the
Creston
Military
Band
.

Sulliger
was
owner
and
publisher
of the
Creston
Journal
newspaper
from
1901
to
1911
, and
when
the
Creston
fire
department
was
organized
in
1902
he was
appointed
the
first
fire
chief
. He was also on the
1909-1910
school
board
. In
1912
Sulliger
sold
the
Journal
and
moved
to
Dayton
to
work
in a
printing
office
.
