Description	Eleazar Hickox built this residence in Burton, Ohio in 1838. Hickox (1777-1868), a native of Connecticut, moved to the Western Reserve in 1804 and stayed at Thomas Umberfield's tavern. There he met his future wife, Stella Umberfield. Hickox and his brother Uri purchased 800 acres of land in Burton from General Hull in 1805. In 1838 he built this brick residence on the property. Thomas Umberfield, Hickox's father-in-law, lived with the Hickox family after his wife's death. At that time Umberfield's frame house was dismantled and moved to adjoin the Hickox house. Hickox died in 1868.
