Dear Students,
Today the Board of Trustees of Notre Dame College voted to accept men into all College programs beginning in January of 2001. A copy of the news release announcing this move is enclosed for your information.
Although you may have chosen Notre Dame because it is a women's college, you are participating in an evolution at the College that will assure a strong future well into the 21''Century.
I assure you that the decision to accept men will not change the essence of Notre Dame College, but will add to the diversity our campus already enjoys. What has made Notre Dame an outstanding learning environment for women will continue because it is the core of what we are - a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution providing personal attention to help students achieve their individual goals.
The decision to accept men is only one element of a five-year strategic plan that will allow us to grow even stronger as an academic institution. Students at colleges and universities across the country, including many of you, are asking for a more diverse college experience, more flexibility and more career-specific options. Our strategic plan responds to those needs with improvements in curriculum, technology, staffing and facilities.
These improvements will assure that Notre Dame College continues to attract students seeking a quality education in a unique and supportive environment.
On Saturday, September 23 at 12:00 noon or Monday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m., I
invite you to attend an open meeting in the PAC that will provide an opportunity for you and other students to ask questions about the transition.
All of us know that you are the most important people at Notre Dame, and I look forward to your involvement as we step together into a bright future.
Sincerely,
V
