Description	In 1871, the London (Ohio) City Council purchased this horse-drawn steam fire engine for $7,200. The engine was accompanied by two hose reels and 1,200 feet of rubber hose. When it arrived in London, volunteers tested the engine and found that water from the 500-barrel cistern could easily reach the highest point of the courthouse and the workers suffered no injury or exhaustion. The London Belle was rebuilt by the American Fire Engine Company of Cincinnati in 1898. It was last used in 1929. It measures 9' 4" x 11' 6" x 5' 6" (2.84 x 3.5 x 1.67 meters). With the arrival of the London Belle, a new fire company was organized. In 1876, the City Council created the paid position of fire chief and eventually other positions were added.
