COLUMBUS, O. , May 6 -- Governor James A. Rhodes today recommended that all state universities in Ohio experiencing unrest be shut down immediately. The Governor said each university would be responsible for any decision to
close. The Governor's message conveyed to. university officials by members of

his staff.
The Governor's action followed new outbreaks of violence at Ohio State University where students stoned Columbus firemen attempting to reach scene

of several fires. The firemen had to be escorted into the university by National
Guard troops. •

Additional reports have indicated that explosive conditions exist at other state universities.
The Governor suggested that faculties arrange to permit students to complete the current Quarter through correspondence.
