Description	The Hitchcock House was built between 1813 and 1822. The family resided in the south wing until builders Selah Bradley and Asa Wilmot completed the home. Peter Hitchcock (1781-1853), a native of Connecticut and a graduate of Yale University, immigrated to Ohio with his young wife Abigail Cook Hitchcock in 1806. They settled in Burton in Geauga County. Hitchcock was elected state representative in 1810, state senator in 1812 and U.S. congressman in 1817. In 1819 he was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court, where he served 28 years as chief justice. In 1850 Hitchcock was a delegate to the state's constitutional convention. He died in Painesville in 1853.
