George Applegate
George Applegate, 69, well- known business man in Oak Har¬ bor, died at his home on Oak Street, Thursday morning, May 26th, 1938, at 9:00 o'clock, follow¬ ing a year's illness. He had been a barber in Oak Harbor for 50 years and was an esteemed and highly respected citizen.
On September 27, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Effie Miler, the now bereaved and sor¬ rowing widow, who faithfuly and lovingly cared for him until the end. To this union two daughters Grace and Florence, were born. After their marriage, they resided in Oak Harbor, first on Ottawa and later on Oak Street, for a period of 45 years. * \
He was in the barber business in Oak Harbor in his own shoPy the Applegate Barber Shop where, he was ably assisted • by his brar ther Frank Applegate, to whom he later sold his shop. .-".¦-
He was a succesful business man as well as a devoted husband and father. He had always en¬ joyed the best of health and had never been ill before until he be¬ came afflicted with heart trouble, which caused his death on the morning of May 26th. At 8:00 o'clock on that morning he' visited with his grandchildren, admired his grandson George's birthday presents of the day before. atention from his wife and daugh^ ters, he fell asleep in his God and Saviour last Thursday morning, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 9 days. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church j on Sunday afternoon, May 30th,; with Rev. E. L. Arthur officiating. Tom Dolan, of Lakeside, rendered two beautiful solos "Beautiful [sle of Somewhere" and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were Dr. R. D. Heller, L. Z. Lantz, Louis Hoelzle, John Croll, Wm, Franck, md Frank Dunmyer. The flowers ivere carried by the Oak Harbor I larbers. Interment was made in Union Cemetery. *
