John Ames, son of Lysander Leeds and Mary Ann Ames, was jiborn near Elmiore, Ohio, Feb. 5, 1844. At the age of 20, he enlist-, ed in Co. G, 60th Regiment of Ohio Volunteers-, -Army of . the Potomac, spefiding 16 months M„ active service. After the close of: the war he returned to Elmore,; Ohio. On July 3, 1866, he wa'sf united in miarriaige t0 Louisa A.! Ingraham, who preeeeded him in I death July 29/1003. To this un-( ion four children were born: Izora Ray, of Alhambra, Oalif.;\ Elites N. Ames,-of Sheridan, Mo.;, Iona Larison, o| Bedford, la., and ij Esitelia Greeson of Detroit, Mich.. Dec. 10,11874, he moved with his] family to a farm near Bedford,' Iowa, where he resided unti 1 the . fall of 19;27. He has been a mem*- ber of the Baptist church for aibout 45 years. He departed this life at the home of his daughter,; Izora Ray, May 1, 1930, aged 86 years, 2 months- and 26 days. The body arrived in Bedford,] Tuesday evening, May 6, and the; funeral services were held at the: home of the daughter, Mrs.' Roy Larison in north Bedford, •Wed¬ nesday^ afternoon a,t 2 /o'clock, conducted.,;* by Rev.. Clark M. CroweH. Internment was made in Forest Grove cemetery. . "'' • '¦ I

IN CALIFORNIA
Word was received here Sunday of the death of John Ames, 86, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Ray of Alhambra, Calif., on Saturday, May 3. He had suf¬ fered a stroke in February and was confined to his bed from that time untii his death. His home is in Bedford, Iowa, but he had ,spent the winter in California with his daughter and family. The body was shipped to Bedford for burial.
