Description	These two photographs were taken when Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married at Malabar Farm on May 21, 1945. Malabar Farm was the home of Ohio author, farmer, and conservationist Louis Bromfield. The photographs measure approximately 5" by 7" (12.7 by 18 cm). Actor Humphrey DeForest Bogart (1899-1957) was known for his roles in "The Maltese Falcon" "Casablanca" and the "African Queen" for which he won an Academy Award. Lauren Bacall (born Betty Joan Perske in 1924) is known for her roles in "Big Sleep" "Key Largo" and "How to Marry a Millionaire." They were paired in the 1944 screenplay of Ernest Hemmingway's "To Have and Have Not" and married the following year. The couple had two children, Stephen and Leslie. Bromfield (1896-1956) received the Pulitzer Prize for his book Early Autumn in 1927 and wrote 30 best-selling books during his 32-year literary career. In 1939, he created his dream, Malabar Farm, where he could demonstrate sound soil and water conservation practices and teach others about sustainable agriculture. Many Hollywood celebrities visited the farm. Bromfield's 32-room country mansion is preserved exactly the way he left it upon his death in 1956 and includes personal artifacts, books, photographs, original paintings, antique furniture, and a 914-acre working farm complete with livestock and crops.
