Description	This 8" x 9.4" (20.32 by 24.13 cm) photograph of the Conway Cabin was taken by Antioch College student Axel Bahnsen (1907-1978) in the 1920s. Bahnsen earned an international reputation as a "pictorialist" the dominant photographic art form of the 1930s and 1940s. African Americans Eliza and Dunmore Gwinn resided in the home after their move to Yellow Springs in the 1860s. The Gwinns, shown in a second 7.75" x 9.5" (19.69 x 24.13 cm) photograph, came to Yellow Springs with a group of other former slaves of Reverend Moncure Conway after they were displaced by the Battle of Fredericksburg in 1862. Many of the former slaves, including the Gwinns, stayed in Yellow Springs and formed a large free black population in the nineteenth century.
