Description	Journalist Anne O'Hare McCormick sent this postcard to Sister Mary Anthony of St. Mary of the Springs on March 25, 1921. In it she discusses her happiness when she received the sisters' Christmas greeting while she was in the South of France. On the front of the postcard is a scene from the cupola of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy. The postcard measures 5.25" x 3.5" (13.34 x 8.89 cm). Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anne O'Hare McCormick (1880-1954) graduated as valedictorian from the Academy of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, Ohio, in 1898. In 1910, she married Frank McCormick, a businessman from Dayton who introduced her to world travel. From overseas, she began writing freelance, submitting stories to the New York Times. Eventually, McCormick earned her own column in the Times, titled "Abroad" and during the years leading up to World War II she interviewed such important personalities as Adolph Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1936 McCormick became the first woman appointed to the editorial board of the Times. A year later she was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in journalism. McCormick also received numerous honorary degrees from such institutions as The Ohio State University, University of Dayton, and Ohio Dominican University. Among other awards, she received the prestigious Laetare Award from the University of Notre Dame in 1944.

Full Text	Hotel Regina, Rome, March 25, '21 Dear Sisters - You can [illegible] on me as I felt when I [illegible] your Christmas greeting in the South of France. My husband went home in January and left me to finish out the winter alone. I found I couldn't stay away from Rome and feel so privileged to be here during Holy Week. I though of you today at Santa Crouce and during the Good Friday tenebrae at St. John Lattern. I am trying to do a little writing, my excuse for staying, but there are too many wonderful distractions. I do hope you are stronger. Love To all at St. Mary's. Anne McCormick Sister M.
