To the Hon. Board of County Commissioners,
Of Gallia County, Ohio.
The undersigned appointed by you to have charge of the burial of indigent Soldiers, Sailors and
Marines, in Huntington Township of said County; in compliance with an
act of the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, entitled, "An act authorizing the burial of the body of
any honorably discharged Ex-Union Soldier, Sailor or Marine of this State, who shall hereafter die without
leaving means sufficient to defray funeral expenses," passed and took effect April 11th, 1884, report that
Allen Vies , late a resident of said Township _____________
died on the 20 day of July 1894, that we have satisfied ourselves by
careful inquiry into, and examination of, all the circumstances in the case, that the family of said
Allen Vies are in indegent circumstances and unable to pay
the expenses of his burial. That the said Allen Vies
was an honorably discharged Ex-Union Soldier, he having served as a private

That the occupation of said Allen Vies while living was
farming ; and that in compliance with the above recited act,
we took charge of the burial of the said Allen Vies and have
caused his body to be interred in Mt. Olive Cemetery
Morgan Township at an expense not exceeding thirty-five
dollars, of which the following is an accurately itemized statement:

We the undersigned, residents of Huntington Twp. where the above named
deceased Soldier Allen Vies lived, are acquainted with
the facts relating to the indigency and inability of his family to defray said funeral expenses, and attest
their truth as above set forth.
