Description	Three photographs document the experience of Gifford Doxsee during World War II. The first photograph shows a group of soldiers, including Doxsee, in 1944, while the second shows him at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1945. The third photograph shows Doxsee and his dog Buddy in 1944. All three photographs are 3.5" x 2.5" (8.89 x 6.35 cm). Gifford Doxsee, professor emeritus of history at Ohio University, served with the United States Army in Europe during World War II. Doxsee was captured during the Battle of the Bulge, and spent time in Dresden, Germany where he experienced the fire bombing in 1945. He was there with Kurt Vonnegut, whose book Slaughterhouse Five (1969) drew on his experiences in Dresden during World War II.
