Description	This ten-page volume, published by the Jarecki Chemical Company of Sandusky, Ohio, contains eight photographs documenting the process of making fish fertilizer, from the initial placing of the nets to the final extraction of oil from the fish. The images of the sail-powered "pound boats" indicate the use of such craft before engine power became prevalent. The book is 10.75" x 8" (27.31 x 20.32 cm). Long known as the "largest fresh-water fish market in the world" in the late nineteenth century Sandusky fostered numerous industries that manufactured fish by-products. The Jarecki Chemical Co. was one of these, producing several types of what they referred to as "Fish Guano." The company, based in Erie, Pennsylvania, established its Sandusky plant in 1887. A notice in the Sandusky Register of August 31, 1894 describes a "solid train of 41 cars loaded with fertilizers" en route to Indiana, as "probably the largest single shipment ever made out of Sandusky."
