Description	Frances Bosworth Dawes carved the head and footboard panels of this cherry-wood bed in the late 1800s. The bed measures 78 by 57.5 by 53 inches (198.12 by 146.05 by 134.62 cm). Frances Bosworth Dawes (1840-1925) was the daughter of Sala Bosworth, a prominent Marietta artist who was known for his portraits and landscapes. She attended Ipswich Seminary in Massachusetts and studied music. Upon returning to Marietta, she was a charter member in the First Presbyterian Church and carved the pulpit and church organ. She married Ephraim Cutler Dawes, a member of another prominent Marietta family, in 1866. The couple moved to Cincinnati and she continued to pursue her woodcarving. Her husband died in 1895, and Frances moved back to Marietta and lived with her sister-in-law.
