in
premature
infants

Dr
.
Ernest
Johnson
was
born
in
Newark
,
New
Jersey
and
moved
to
Ohio
as a
boy
. He
started
school
at The
Ohio
State
University
but was then
drafted
in
January
1942
and
eventually
went
overseas
for
30
months
in the
Pacific
.
Discharged
as
first
lieutenant
in
July
1946
,
Johnson
enrolled
at
Ohio
State
under
the
G.I
.
Bill
. He
graduated
with
honors
from the
medical
school
in
June
1952
.
Johnson
served
as a
faculty
member
at The
Ohio
State
University
from
1955-2001
. He was the
first
chair
of the
OSU
Department
of
Physical
Medicine
, a
position
he
held
from
1963
to
1989
.
Johnson
is
internationally
known
for his
advocacy
for the
rights
of
people
with
disabilities
and his
medical
contributions
to
rehabilitation
.
