Description	Anne O'Hare McCormick wrote this letter to Mother Stephanie circa 1927 concerning McCormick's contribution to a building fund at St. Mary of the Springs as well as her wish to visit. She also discusses her busy work schedule and her book about Russia. The letter is two pages and measures 8.5" x 11" (21.59 x 27.94 cm). A second letter, written on New York Times stationery, was written on May 4, 1944. In it McCormick commends the work of the sisters and discusses her Laetare medal. The one-page letter measures 8" x 11" (20.32 x 27.94 cm). Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anne O'Hare McCormick (1880-1954) graduated as valedictorian from the Academy of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, Ohio, in 1898. In 1910, she married Frank McCormick, a businessman from Dayton who introduced her to world travel. From overseas, she began writing freelance, submitting stories to the New York Times. Eventually, McCormick earned her own column in the Times, titled "Abroad" and during the years leading up to World War II she interviewed such important personalities as Adolph Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1936 McCormick became the first woman appointed to the editorial board of the Times. A year later she was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in journalism. McCormick also received numerous honorary degrees from such institutions as The Ohio State University, University of Dayton, and Ohio Dominican University. Among other awards, she received the prestigious Laetare Award from the University of Notre Dame in 1944.

Full Text	[corresponds to page 1 of Anne O'Hare McCormick letter to Mother Stephanie at Easter time] Miami Hotel Dayton, Ohio My dear Mother Stephanie: I have received the letter sent out to the alumnae and I am immensely impressed and edified by all the wonderful things you are doing at St. Mary's. I'm hoping to get up soon to see things for myself; otherwise I won't even have a guide book to tell me I'm in the right place. But I've been so swamped with work and all kinds of tiresome things since we came back from Europe that I haven't had a day off yet and now must go to New York Sunday night for another six weeks' grind. After that I promise myself the pleasure of a visit to St. Mary's - so don't go too far ahead of me before I catch up! Meantime I send you all my faithful love and my most heartfelt Easter greetings, and, by way of proving that I'm not insensitive of the appeal centered in the alumnae letter, the enclosed small contribution to the building fund. I mean to send on a little whenever I can. I wish each time it were ten times as much. Even if it were it could not repay the Sisters
