Description	Die Neuner, a German language book written in 1897 by Constantin Grebner, is a history of the 9th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.), an all-German Civil War regiment. This book contains 290 pages and measures 5" x 7" (12.70 x 17.78 cm). Twenty-one pages are included here. Grebner (1830-1907), was born in Bronnbach, Baden, Germany and immigrated to Cincinnati, where he taught German in the public schools. He also wrote historical works and poetry. The 9th Ohio Volunteer Infantry organized in Cincinnati at Camp Harrison under Colonel Robert M. McCook on April 22, 1861. The regiment consisted primarily German-Americans who were initially organized for three months of service but later reorganized for three years of service. It served in Virginia (now West Virginia) under McClellan and later became part of the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Ohio. The regiment played a role in the battles of Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, and Resaca. It disbanded in 1864.
