The Clermont County Infirmary
from July 21, 1854 to July 26, 1883 [underlined A. . . 1883]
At a meeting of the Commissioners
of Clermont County held July
21, 8, 1854, it was decided to buy
land and provide for the pau-
pers of the county. The Board
of Commissioners of the county
at that time consisted of Ben-
jamin Brown, Henry Chapman
and Andrew J. Thompson. The
farm of Jacob and Henry G.
Duckwall consisting of 108 acres
situated in Batavia township
in Gray’s survey, No. 1116, was
purchased for $4,320. The paupers
of the county were collected and
put on this farm under the care of Superintendant James [crossed out]
Wislon [crossed out] Andrew J. Sherman.
The accommodations here
[carrot mark] were [written above carrot mark] soon found to be insuffi-
cient and at a meeting of
the Board of Commissioners
composed of Messers Hally, R.
Perrine, Wm P. Daughters and
A.F. Momison, held September
1, 1856, they purchased the present
Infirmary farm of Reader W.
Clarke. this farm consisted of
120 acres and the price
paid was $8,400.
