1903
.
It
is
addressed
to
Tillie
Nilson
in
Indianapolis
. The
note
reads
: "
Seen
all
these
places
yesterday
don't
know
when
we
will be at
Indianapolis
again
.
Next
engagement
at
Avenue
Theater
Detroit
,
Mich
.
Opening
April
27
to
May
03
03.
" The
postcard
was
purchased
by the
Shaker
Height
Public
Library
in
November
2000
.
It
is
part
of a
larger
collection
of
materials
relating
to
Shaker
Heights
history
. A
searchable
database
of the
collection
is
available
online
.
Rockefeller
Park
covers
approximately
200
acres
on the
city's
East
Side
,
following
Doan
Brook
for
about
three
miles
.
John
D
. and
Laura
Spelman
Rockefeller
deeded
the
land
to the
city
for
use
as a
park
in
1897
.
Architect
Charles
F
.
Schweinfurth
,
who
also
designed
several
homes
along
Cleveland's
"Millionaires
'
Row
"
designed
the
four
distinctive
bridges
along
the
parkway
. The
city's
Second
Park
Board
purchased
Edgewater
Park
,
located
along
Lake
Erie
, in
1894
from
Jacob
B
.
Perkins
, a
Cleveland
industrialist
.
Many
recreational
facilities
were
subsequently
provided
,
including
bathhouses
, a
pavilion
,
baseball
diamonds
, and
numerous
picnic
and
playground
areas
. The
Old
Shaker
Mill
was
built
by the
North
Union
Shaker
Colony
on the
Shaker
Lakes
in
1843
.
It
was
demolished
on
July
4
,
1886
amidst
a
great
celebration
. The
stone
quarries
,
opened
the
same
year
, were
run
by the
Shakers
until
the
colony
disbanded
in
1889
.
