Description	This illustration and text on the chickadee was published in William Dawson's The Birds of Ohio: a Complete Scientific and Popular Description of the 320 Species of Birds Found in the State in 1903. The chickadee, Parus atricapillus, is commonly found in the northern and eastern regions of Ohio. Chickadees' nests are made of moss and grasses and they typically build them in holes of trees or stumps. Females typically lay five to eight eggs, which are white with small brown spots. William Leon Dawson (1873-1928), an ornithologist and Congregational minister, created The Birds of Ohio: a Complete Scientific and Popular Description of the 320 Species of Birds Found in the State in 1903. Dawson was ordained at Oberlin Theological Seminary in 1899 and became the pastor at North Church in Columbus in 1900. He also published books about the birds of Florida and California.
