Description	This medal was presented to Henry Boyles of Harrison County at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia for his samples of Spanish Merino wool. These samples were judged to be of "very superior quality." Boyles resided on a 165-acre farm outside of Cadiz. Like many other Harrison County farmers, he specialized in raising sheep. By 1873, the county could claim 200,000 sheep. The medal, which was cast at the Philadelphia mint, measures 4 inches (10.16 cm). It was photographed by David R. Barker of the Ohio Historical Society. The International Exhibition of Arts, Manufactures, and Products of the Soil and Mine was held to observe the one hundredth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It also marked America's rise as an international industrial power. Industrial and agricultural products from all over the nation were displayed at the exhibition.
