Description	This book is a record of Civil War soldiers who were members of Post 82 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), a veteran's organization. The entries describe the service dates, the battles the soldiers fought, the men with whom they served, the injuries sustained, and the prisons where confined. This selection begins with a history of the James St. John Post, and includes the war sketches of William G. Beatty, Robert T. Barge, Robert F. Bartlett, J. G. Blue, Ira Claflin, Thomas C. Cunard, Samual C. Kirkpatrick, Robert W. Long, Henry C. Martindale, Theodore Purvis, George S. Singer, David V. Wherry, and Clayton N. Willits. The complete volume contains 132 personal war sketches and 82 burial records. It measures 12" x 17" x 2" (30.48 x 43.18 x 5.08 cm). The men in the book fought in many battles. More than 50 different battles are mentioned among the pages. Those sited the most often are Chickamauga, Stones River, Perryville, Vicksburg, Kennesaw Mountains, Battle of Cedars, Mission Ridge, Peachtree Creek, Shilo, Savannah, and Atlanta. Robert W. Long not only survived many battles, a shell injury, and 18 months as a prisoner of war. While returning home from war, he had to swim to safety after the Sultana steamboat disaster on April 27, 1865. Robert F. Bartlett was wounded in the head by a rebel shell, was taken prisoner and exchanged for a wounded Confederate soldier, survived three separate illnesses, and was discharged after a gunshot wound and amputation of his left arm. Later in life, Bartlett assisted author A. J. Baughman to write the History of Morrow County Ohio, a two volume narrative account published in 1911.
