Description	Two images depict opera houses in Wooster, Ohio. The first image measures 3.25 " by 3.5" (8.26 by 9 cm) and depicts the City Opera House, built in 1887. The auditorium could seat more than 900 people. It was "perfect acoustically" and had a sloping floor. Some musical comedies of the time included "The Isle of Spice" "The Red Mill" and "The Merry Widow." Famous musical groups that performed there included Sousa's band, Gilmore's band, and Nellie Melba. The City Opera House was opened to the public between two and six nights a week. On occasion, it was opened on Sunday for religious services. The second image measures 4" by 6" (10.16 by 15.24 cm) and shows the Quinby Opera House, which was located on the corner of North Buckeye and Larwill streets. The opening show on February 1, 1877 was Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It." The comedy was presented by Effie Ellsler's Dramatic Company from the Euclid Avenue Opera House in Cleveland, Ohio. The Quinby Opera House could seat 1,000 people. The "Gambler's Pathway" (later a smash hit in New York) and "Romeo and Juliet" (presented by Miss Jane Coombs and her company from New York) were a few shows that were of great success. The opera house was torn down about 1900. This image is part of the Wooster Souvenir, published by the Clapper Printing & Bag Company.
