of
Marsh
house
. The

Edward
H
.
Marsh
(1851-1921)
was
born
in
Cincinnati
, and
succeeded
his
father
as
head
of
Marsh
&
Company
, a
plaster
manufacturing
business
founded
in
1843
. He
moved
to
Sandusky
in the
early
1870s
. His
son
,
Edward
Lea
Marsh
,
worked
for the
company
(U
.
S
.
Gypsum)
that
bought
the
family
business
.
William
Howard
Taft
(1857-1930)
, the
twenty-seventh
president
of the
United
States
,
accepted
his
party's
nomination
for the
presidency
from the
front
lawn
of his
half-brother's
home
,
now
the
Taft
Museum
of
Art
.
Prior
to that
time
,
William
Howard
was a
lawyer
in his
native
Cincinnati
and in
1904
had been
appointed
secretary
of
war
by
President
Theodore
Roosevelt
.
Following
his
presidency
,
Taft
became
chief
justice
of the
Supreme
Court
of the
United
States
, the
only
president
to
achieve
this
distinction
.
