Description	This entry documents the first probate proceedings of the Warren County Special Court of Common Pleas after the county's inception in May 1803. At this session on May 10, 1803, the court elected David Sutton as clerk pro tempore, or for the time being. It is two pages long and measures 7.75" x 12. 75" (19.69 x 32.39 cm). Sutton (1766-1834), one of the earliest settlers of Warren County, came to Ohio from Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He owned a tavern in Deerfield, and county and state elections in Deerfield Township were held at his home for several years. He served as clerk of court from 1803 to 1815 and representative to the state legislature in 1816, 1818, and 1823. He served as a captain in the War of 1812 and held the rank of general in the militia. At the time of his death, he was running for state senator from Warren County.
