Description	This postcard depicts Ursuline College at its Nottingham, Ohio site in 1890. In 1874, Ursuline College purchased 37 acres of property located in Nottingham to the east of Cleveland. It measures 4" x 6" (10.16 cm x 15.24 cm). In 1878, the Ursulines opened St. Mary School at Villa Angela. The day school was discontinued in 1881, but the boarding school remained open until 1941. In 1878, a boarding school for young boys, St. Joseph's Seminary, opened on an adjacent 29-acre parcel of land. Meanwhile, plans for a motherhouse, to be located at 55th Street and Scovill Avenue, were underway. The community hired Charles F. Schweinfurth, a Cleveland architect who was noted for his grandiose Romanesque style and the bold sandstone mansions designed for Cleveland's elite. In 1893, the community moved into a massive building that was both contemporary and reminiscent of the medieval Boulogne-sur-mer motherhouse in France.
