of the
Utah
Gospel
Mission
(UGM)
, an
inter-denominational
organization
incorporated
in
Cleveland
,
Ohio
in
January
1900
to
mount
a
national
crusade
against
Mormonism
. The
organization
acted
primarily
through
missionaries
,
who
traveled
in
wagons
throughout
the
Mormon
areas
of the
West
,
particularly
in
Utah
and
Idaho
,
distributing
literature
and
speaking
. Its
peak
years
were in the
mid-1930s
. In
addition
to
monetary
problems
, the
organization
had
trouble
keeping
its
field
operations
staffed
.
While
the
activity
of the
Mission
continued
through
the
1940s
, the
death
of
J
.
D
.
Nutting
in
1949
marked
the
end
of
effective
operations
.
Members
of the
founding
executive
committee
of the
Mission
included

.

of
St
.
Paul's
Episcopal
Church
in
Cleveland
as
president
,
Reverend
Robert
Moffett
of the
Disciple
Church
in
Cleveland
as
vice-president
, and
Douglas
Perkins

Cleveland

treasurer
.
Other
prominent
members
of the
board
of
trustees
included
