Description	The Van Wert Woman's Christian Temperance Union kept this minute book from 1882 to 1886. The complete volume is approximately fifty pages and measures 6.5" x 8" (16.51 x 20.32 cm). Included here are the constitution and by-laws and minutes from December 19, 1882 to June 4, 1883. Newspaper clippings, including one on the death of reformer Francis Willard, are interspersed in the book. The Van Wert Woman's Christian Temperance Union was established in the 1880s and played an important role locally in advancing the cause of the temperance movement. Mrs. Ella Alexander Boole, national WCTU president from 1925-1933 and head of the world WCTU from 1931-1946, was the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. I.N. Alexander, of Van Wert County. The minute book is part of a larger collection, which also includes many of Boole's letters.
