Description	Jonathon Uhrich (1835-1901), a tobacco farmer in Miami Township (near Dayton), Ohio, kept these journals of daily chores and happenings on his farm between 1877 and 1903. Uhrich's notations about his tobacco crop provide a detailed look at tobacco farming, which is no longer practiced on a large scale in Montgomery County. Uhrich recorded how the crop fared for each season, what type of tobacco seed he used and the many hours he spent in planting, hoeing, harvesting and stripping the tobacco plants. Uhrich also recorded the daily weather temperature and condition in the morning and the evening. The journals document visitors to the farm, neighbors he loaned tools to, those he visited, and brief notations on local events. In some journals he noted how much money he earned and what he spent his money on. Selected portions of the journals (approximately 20 pages) are included here. They measure approximately 6.5" x 7.75" (16.51 x 19.69 cm).

AM Early Hauled 6 cases tobacco for John Eagle. (beer) PM finished planting corn. We finished in New ground corn and truck patch.
