Description	The preamble to the constitution of the Tallmadge Cornet Brass Band is shown here. It is one page and measures approximately 8.5" x 11" (21.6 x 27.9 cm). In 1854, a group of men, desirous of a "different style of music" formed an association to create a brass band in Tallmadge, Ohio. Subscribers in the community paid between $.25 and $10.00 to purchase brass instruments and a drum. Originally, there were eight band members. They were given the instruments, and E. Hull was hired to give instructions for $35.00 and board for a term of twelve lessons. He was subsequently hired for another twelve lessons. Through diligent practice, the band became quite good and received invitations to play throughout the Western Reserve, receiving fees from $25.00 to $43.00 per engagement. The band became so popular it was able to commission a bandwagon to ride in parades.

Full Text	Cornet Brass Band Preamble Whereas deeming for our pleasure and profit to cultivate a different style of Music from the heretofore cultivated in Tallmadge (that is Music on Brass Instruments) we form ourselves into an association for the purpose and agree to be governed by the following resolutions & Laws Resolved That this "Band" shall be known as the "Cornet Brass Band" of Tallmadge Resolved That the officers of the band shall be a Leader who shall act as President and a Treasurer who shall act as Secretary to be chosen by ballot semiannually. Resolved That the members of the band shall own the instruments each an equal share on paying an equal share of the cost Resolved That if a member leaves the band he shall leave his instrument and receive for the same whatever the other members of the band
