Description	This album documents the history of the Catholic Church in Hamilton County. It was published in honor of the golden jubilee of Archbishop William Elder's ordination as a priest. The volume contains photographs of the Catholic churches in Cincinnati along with portraits of the clergy who served in them. There are also photographs of charitable institutions and convents around the city. A memorial section honors the former bishops who served in the archdiocese, along with other deceased clergy members. The book is 260 pages long and measures 12 x 9.75 inches (30.48 x 24.76 cm). The Diocese of Cincinnati was created in 1821. The number of Catholics in the area grew quickly due to the number of German and Irish immigrants coming into southwestern Ohio. It was elevated to the rank of an archdiocese in 1850. By the time this book was published in 1896, the Catholic population of Cincinnati numbered 192,500.
