Description	These three photographs from 1930 show the administration and seminary wings being built on the campus of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus. The first photograph shows workers on the tower. It measures 5" x 7" (12.70 x 17.78 cm) and was taken from scaffolding northwest of the tower. The second and third photographs show the progression of the construction from September to December in 1930. The bust of Monsignor Och is located directly above the rose window for St. Turibius Chapel. A 66,000-gallon water tank is also visible in the upper right corner. During water shortages, residents in the area would purchase water from the Josephinum. The second photograph measures 8" x 10" (20.32 x 25.40 cm) and the third measures 9.25" x 7.25" (23.50 x 18.42 cm). In 1877 Father John Joseph Jessing received permission from Bishop Sylvester Rosecrans to establish what eventually became the Josephinum in Columbus. Jessing, a German immigrant, had established an orphanage in Pomeroy that he funded through the publication of the Ohio Waisenfreund (Ohio Orphans' Friend), a German-language newspaper, but felt that he could accomplish more in a larger city. The Columbus Josephinum was originally located at 831 East Main, then known as Friend Street, at the corner of 18th Street. In 1888, he started the Collegium Josephinum to train young men for the priesthood and to minister primarily to German-speaking immigrants. In 1931, the Josephinum moved to a one-hundred-acre campus eleven miles north of downtown Columbus. To ensure that the Josephinum would continue after his death, Jessing asked that it be placed under the protection of the Holy See. Pope Leo XIII granted the request in 1892, thus making the Pontifical College Josephinum the only pontifical seminary outside of Italy.
