Description	"The Phonology of the Western Reserve" was published by phonetician John S. Kenyon. It appeared in Dialect Notes, volume 4, part 6, 1917 (pages 384-404). The article focus on speech distinctive to the Western Reserve, an area in northeastern Ohio retained by Connecticut when it ceded to the federal government its claims to other western lands in 1786, and settled mostly by New Englanders. The 19-page article measures 6" x 9.25" (15.24 x 23.5 cm). Kenyon (1874-1959) was born in Medina, Ohio. He graduated from Hiram College in 1898, and returned to Hiram to teach English and phonetics from 1916 until his retirement in 1944. He was internationally known for such publications as "The Guide to Pronunciation" for Webster's New International Dictionary in 1934 and the Pronouncing Dictionary of American English, which he published in collaboration with Thomas A. Knott in 1944. He was revered by his students for both his teaching ability and for his sense of humor, and often wrote clever limericks just for fun.
