Description	These letters highlight the Civil War experience of Oscar Kelton of Columbus, Ohio. In a 12 page letter from October 22, 1863, Kelton describes a skirmish and comments on the election of John Brough for Ohio Governor over Peace Democrat Clement Vallandingham. He also describes camp life, his relationship with the men serving under him, and a visit to the home of a southern family. A one page letter from May 15, 1864 informs the writer's father that his company will begin an expedition down the White River. Kelton was killed in battle less than a month after the final letter was written.

Full Text	Memphis Tenn May 15 th[superscript] 1864 Dear Father Tomorrow morning my company with a detail of two hundred men from our reg- iment starts on a thirty day exiptition down to the mouth of White River under the command of Maj Hancock. I will write more on the way down or as soon as we stop. Send the things I wrote for to Memphis and direct your letters to the Regt at Memphis as usual Yours in Haste O D Kelton
