Description	These three landscape paintings were painted by artist Archibald Willard (1836-1918) in the 1870s or 1880s. The first painting shows the Cuyahoga River and measures 17" x 24" (43.18 x 60.96 cm). The second painting, which measures 24" x 18" (60.96 x 45.72 cm) also depicts the Cuyahoga River Valley. A final painting is of an unidentified Ohio location and measures 19.75" x 15" (50.17 x 38.1 cm). Willard was born in Bedford, Ohio in 1836. His family moved to Wellington, Ohio in the 1850s. Although he had little formal training as an artist, Willard worked for a carriage maker, painting pictures on finished carriages. After serving in the Civil War, his work came to the attention of a Cleveland art retailer who marketed his work. He is best known for his painting The Spirit of '76.
