Description	This four-page list of rules of the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home was included in the institution's annual report for 1900. Staff of the home were instructed to treat the children as family, and "altercations" were forbidden. The report was included in the time capsule that was placed in the cornerstone of the Greene County Courthouse in 1901. It measures approximately 6.5" x 9.5" (16.51 x 24.13 cm). The Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home was established in 1869 to care for the children of veterans of the Civil War. The school, cottages, and other buildings were built just south of Xenia by Cleveland architect Levi Scofield. The home closed in 1995. In January 1901, the building commission overseeing the building of the new Greene County Courthouse asked the Masons to take charge of ceremonies to commemorate the laying of the cornerstone. A "deposits committee" was formed to collect the items to be buried in a small copper box under the cornerstone during the ceremonies on March 15, 1901. The box remained buried until February of 2001, when it was recovered and opened for the centennial ceremonies on March 15, 2001.
