[corresponds to page 1 of Ohio City Letter to City of Cleveland Regarding Ferries]
To the City Council of the City of Cleveland
We the undersigned were appointed a Committee by
the Common Council of this City to reply to a Committee
appointed by the Common Council of the City of Cleveland
on the subject of establishing Free Ferries at different
points on the Cuyahoga River. [line]
In answer we have briefly to stat that the
Common Council of the City of Cleveland and their Committee
have been well aware that exertions have been for a
long time making to erect a Bridge across at one of
the points proposed by said Committee to establish a
Ferry, Feeling as we do on the subject that a Bridge
will accomodate the immediate and the traveling
community better than all the Ferries that could poss
=ibly be established accross the Cuyahoga River, we feel
it our duty to decline any further conferance on
the subject of Ferries untill the question of Bridges
or no Bridges is decided, when this question is [illegible]
and if it should be decided no Bridges [word crossed out] This
[above word crossed out] Committee
will ever be ready & happy to confer, with any Committee
That your City Council may appoint
With great Respect we remain
Respectfully Yours
