Description	Sixteen handwritten pages, each measuring approximately 6.5 by 8.2 inches (16.51 by 20.83 cm), relate to the 1878 founding and incorporation of Ashland College as a co-educational institution affiliated with the German Brethren Church. The local community contributed $10,000 to establish the school in the town of Ashland. On September 17, 1879 Ashland College opened its doors to a class between 55 and 75 students. Eight faculty members were assigned to teach mental and moral science, Greek, Latin, German, French, mathematics, natural science, business, and music. The first students graduated in 1881.
