Description	This 7" x 5" (17.78 x 12.70 cm) photograph, taken in 1928, shows the front of the newly completed Notre Dame College building (now called the Administration Building) in South Euclid, Ohio. The second photograph is a view of the back of the building as seen from then-undeveloped Maywood Road in 1929. This photograph measures 6.5" x 4.75" (16.51 x 12.07 cm). The Administration Building was designed by architect Thomas D. McLaughlin & Associates of Lima, Ohio, and built by John T. Gill & Sons of Cleveland. Stone contractors were the Ohio Cut Stone Company, and the Cleveland Quarries Company. The informal groundbreaking occurred on October 26, 1926, with foundation work beginning that winter. The cornerstone laying ceremony, led by Bishop Joseph T. Schrembs of the Cleveland diocese, was held on June 5, 1927. He also dedicated the building on November 25, 1928. Due to a lack in funds, the building stood incomplete for over thirty years. Construction of the upper floors of the west wing began on August 22, 1960. Roediger Construction of Cleveland consulted with the original architect, Thomas D. McLaughlin, to complete the west wing in the same style, using the same materials, as originally envisioned. Collinwood Shale & Brick produced 161,000 bricks to match the originals on the east and north wings. The west wing opened for use on September 18, 1962. This one building served all the needs of the college until the erection of Harks Hall (a dormitory) in 1955. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sisters of Notre Dame established Notre Dame College in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded as a private, Catholic, liberal arts college for women, Notre Dame College opened on September 18, 1922 on the campus of Notre Dame Academy on Ansel Road. As the college grew, it became necessary to build a separate campus. Land east of Cleveland in South Euclid was prepared for the new college site, and the first building opened in September 1928. In 1978, the Weekend College (WECO), an outgrowth of Lifelong Learning, was established for women older than age 25 who wished to pursue degrees in four years on alternating weekends. In 1992, the M. Ed. degree was designed for "master teachers." In 2001, Notre Dame opened attendance to men. The college's motto is "changing the world, one student at a time."
