[corresponds to page 1 of Nemiah Allen Letter to Thomas Rotch Concerning Stoves]
Friend Rotche
I am at Talmadge to ascertain what I
can get Christopher Hoxie's patent cooking
Stoves cast for per ton---I lately recieved a letter
from him offering to give me a permit
to use his patent for 2 Dol per stove or
$500 Dollars for the Western Reserve in the rest
of Ohio & Territory of Michigan or a permit
to cast one hundred Stoves for one hundred Dols
money in advance----I think I may
say with confidence his are the best and
most convenient cooking Stoves in use and
approach as near perfection as can be reas-
ably hoped--I cannot get the castings at
this place--but I have seen Judge Norton
who offers to furnish the plates at Canton
purchased near thy place for one hundred Dollars
per ton- Friend Hoxie gets his at Philadelphia
for $80 per ton--Now the favor I ask of thee
is as soon as thy business will permit to give
me thy opinion of the Canton iron for Stoves
whether it is soft enough & will stand, fine
for this use[unclear]
them in to Stark and the lower counties
at $40 per stove--we are well and may this
find thee and thine so. Thy obliged friend
