taught
second
and
third
graders

schools

Ogrin
taught
fourth
graders
at

Andrew's
and
later
returned
to
Notre
Dame
College
to
complete
her
bachelor's
degree
,
graduating
in
1927
.
Poelking
taught
third
graders
at
St
.
George's
School
for
several
years
and then
accepted
a
position
at the
Mutual
Building
and
Investment
Company
in
Cleveland
.
Weist
was
captain
of the
1923
varsity
basketball
team
at
Notre
Dame
College
.
After
receiving
her
certificate
she
taught
at
St
.
George's
School
.
Maher
later
taught
second
graders
at
St
.
Cyril
and
Methodius
School
in
Lakewood
. The
photograph

1922
in
Cleveland
,
Ohio
.
Founded
as a
private
,
Catholic
,
liberal
arts
college
for
women
,
Notre
Dame
College
opened
on
September
18
,
1922
on the
campus
of
Notre
Dame
Academy
on
Ansel
Road
. As the
college
grew
,
it
became
necessary
to
build
a
separate
campus
.
Land
east
of
Cleveland
in
South
Euclid
was
prepared
for the
new
college
site
, and the
first
building
opened
in
September
1928
. In
1978
, the
Weekend
College
(WECO)
, an
outgrowth
of
Lifelong
Learning
, was
established
for
women
older
than
age
25
who
wished
to
pursue
degrees
in
four
years
on
alternating
weekends
. In
1992
, the
M
.
Ed
.
degree
was
designed
for "
master
teachers.
" In
2001
,
Notre
Dame
opened
attendance
to
men
. The
college's
motto
is
"
changing
the
world
,
one
student
at a
time.
"
