Description	This photograph shows a NASA rocket in Cape Canaveral, Florida waiting for liftoff. The rocket is mounted on a crawler made by Marion Power Shovel Company of Marion, Ohio. The photograph measures 20.5" x 26.5" (52.07 x 67.31 cm). In 1963, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) selected Marion Power Shovel to design and build two crawler transporters for the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. They were originally designed to pick up an Apollo-Saturn moon vehicle, together with its launch equipment, and haul it three miles to the launch site. The design was based on principles used in the lower works of stripping shovels that the company manufactured. The vehicles have been used ever since; most recently to move the space shuttles with their launch rockets to the launch site. Each transporter measures 114 feet wide by 133 feet long (34.75 x 40.54 m)and weighs 5.5 million pounds (2.5 million kg).
