Description	Many booklets were published after the flooding of 1913 in the Miami and Ohio valleys, each with photographs of the devastation in the various cities and towns. This one, titled "Photographic Views and Story of the Disastrous Flood of the Miami and Ohio Valleys" focuses on Dayton, Hamilton, Cincinnati, Piqua, Springfield, and Fremont. The lead sentence, describing the flood as the most destructive the world has ever known, conveys the sweeping impact of the disaster. This booklet was published by the Metal Polishers, Buffers, Platers, Brass and Silver Workers' Union of North America, "for the benefit of the members who lost their homes, their household effects, and who suffered so severely." It is 64 pages long and measures13" x 19" (33.02 x 48.26 cm). Twenty-six pages are included here. In late March 1913, an unusually heavy rainstorm moved into Ohio. It rained steadily for five days and the streams all over Ohio rose rapidly. By the third day of the downpour, levees were overtopped and many towns suffered disastrous flooding. Great fires that raged unchecked added to the destruction and the loss of life. When the flood waters receded, tons of mud and debris covered the streets, homes, businesses and factories. The death toll stood at 361. Property damages were well over $100,000,000 and 65,000 were forced to temporarily leave their homes.
