Description	Marion Union Station was built in 1902 to serve the four railroads that passed through the city. These railroads were vital to Marion's economic development. The station was built in part due to the urging of Warren G. Harding, who later became president. At the time he was publisher of the newspaper in Marion. The station figured prominently during World War II, when troops stopped there; a U.S.O. (United Service Organizations) Canteen supplied food and reading materials to soldiers. Movie stars including Al Jolson came through the station during Harding's famous "Front Porch" presidential campaign in 1920. In 1923, Harding's body was brought through the station for his funeral. Stationery storeowner C.G. Wiant used this 7" by 9" (17.78 by 22.86 cm) black and white photograph to create a colorized postcard. Wiant commissioned a German company to create the postcard. The image includes instructions in German on coloring.
