Description	Three photographs document Lloyd B. Mignerey's attendance at a Miami Valley Chautauqua in August 1916. The first image shows Miss Veda McCray and Mignerey; the second and third show Mignerey while "sick at camp." The photographs measure 2.5" by 4.2" (6.35 by 10.7 cm). The Miami Valley Chautauqua was one of many that developed after the establishment of the original Chautauqua in New York. It began in 1896 during a revival held by Reverend Thomas Harrison. By 1901 it had its permanent location. In the 1930s it became more recreational, by the 1960s it had year round residents. The Miami Valley Chautauqua was sold in 1968. Reverend Lloyd B. Mignerey (1896-1988) was born in Mowrystown, Ohio. He graduated from Otterbein College in 1917, then enlisted in the U. S. Army. During World War I he served in the Medical Corps and drove an ambulance in France. Following the war he studied at the Sorbonne briefly before returning to the United States. He served as the field secretary for the Anti-Saloon League of America until the 18th amendment, which prohibited the sale of alcohol, was passed. He married Ruth Phillips on September 11, 1921. In December of the same year they departed for missionary work in Sierra Leone, where they served until 1924. In Sierra Leona he became acting principal of Albert Academy and became an avid supporter of the movement for one universal language, Esperanto. In 1926, he was ordained into the ministry; he served in United Brethren churches in Lancaster, Chillicothe, and Jackson. Mignerey obtained his private pilot's license in 1940 and enlisted in the Air Force as a "Sky Pilot" chaplain in 1942. He remained in military service throughout World War II and the Korean conflict. When he returned to civilian life in 1955 he became editor for the Temperance Education Foundation in Westerville, Ohio until he retired in 1964.
